Wijnaldum admits he would be ‘devastated’ if he were to leave Liverpool with a deal that will expire amid free transfer interest

BARCELONA target Georginio Wijnaldum is said to be “devastated” to leave Liverpool – but admits talks on a new deal are “difficult”.

The 30-year-old Dutch midfielder has appeared in every Premier League game for the Reds this season, but his contract ends this summer.

Wijnaldum insists he wants to stay at Anfield – and blames the Champions’ shocking six-game losing streak at home on the lack of fans.

The former Newcastle midfielder also stressed that his priority is to help Liverpool overcome their plight – NOT their own future.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will defend a 2-0 lead in the Champions League round of 16 first leg against RB Leipzig in Budapest on Wednesday.

And Wijnaldum said of his situation: “It’s not as easy as everyone thinks it is to make decisions about their future.

“You have to think of everything, then negotiate with the clubs first and it’s so difficult and that’s why it takes so long.

“I also think the situation we find ourselves in now means that is not the most important thing.

“It’s getting back on track and winning games and then we’ll see.”

And on the possibility of a summer outing, the former PSV Eindhoven star said: “Really difficult because if that happens you leave a team that you really love, a team that you share a lot of years together and where you really feel comfortable.

“It will be difficult but you don’t know the situation, why you have to leave it always depends on the situation.

“But I would be devastated not to play for this team again, for sure.”
