Artificial selection

Tried these artificial flowers from Amazon and probably won’t buy real ones again

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, most people will be rushing to buy last-minute bouquets to give to someone they love.

While roses are the traditional romantic holiday flower, sometimes it’s nice to opt for something a little different.

Tulips are also said to represent “perfect deep love”, making them the perfect alternative for a Valentine’s Day gift.

Even if you don’t have anyone to shop for this Valentine’s Day, there’s nothing better than buying yourself flowers.

Personally, I like to give myself flowers, they make my house much calmer and more organized.

One thing I don’t like is trying to make them last. I usually forget to change the water, and they tend to wilt and look a little sad before long.

That’s why I thought I’d give these Umi Artificial Tulips go see if they filled a hole in the shape of a flower in my living room.

The tulips

I have to admit that I’m usually not a big fan of fake flowers as some may seem a little cheap or totally unrealistic, but since I seem unable to keep anything alive for more than a few days I now felt like time to try them.

Luckily I was more than pleasantly surprised when they arrived the next day.

They looked so realistic that at first I thought I had misread the listing and accidentally bought fresh flowers – that’s how good they looked.

When I opened them they are made from a soft plastic and have a slightly rubbery texture which means they don’t fade in the sun as quickly as the silk ones.

They also have a thick stem with a hidden wire inside that allows you to arrange and bend them to replicate the usual “status” of tulips if desired.

The foliage on the stems also adds to the realistic look, as often with artificial flowers they come with a very simple and basic stem which keeps them from looking realistic.

At 17 inches long, they’re a good height so they won’t get lost in a vase, and they come with three ‘open’ flowers and three ‘buds’ to help them look even more natural.

It was even better to know that they wouldn’t die in a few days, and I didn’t have to worry about constantly refreshing the water to keep them alive.

They will make a great gift for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day, or even just to treat yourself and brighten up your home.

These got a 10/10 from me, and I’ll probably be buying more very soon.
