A Shobnall Recreation Center celebrates the completion of upgrades to its facilities.

Improvements to the Shobnall Leisure Complex, run by Everyone Active, included resurfacing the multi-purpose court and new energy-efficient LED floodlights.

The new surface system, primarily used for hockey, has achieved International Hockey Federation (FIH) Category 3 performance standards, meaning it is suitable for national and local competitions. This is the highest performance standard a sand-clad field hockey pitch can achieve.

The official opening was attended by Cllr. Patricia Ackroyd, Eastern Mayor
Staffordshire, Clr. Bev Ashcroft (Deputy Leader for Recreation, Amenities and Tourism), Ward Councilors, Council Officers, Representatives from Partner Organizations and Barton and Burton Hockey Clubs.

Simon Morgan, contract manager for Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted to be providing this new artificial pitch and floodlights to the local community and beyond.

“The surface is top quality and will be used for a variety of activities so people of all ages and interests will enjoy it.

“The new floodlights illuminate the area perfectly and their energy efficiency will reduce the impact on the environment.”

Councilor Patricia Ackroyd, Mayor of East Staffordshire, said: “The refurbishment of the facility has provided wonderful new ground for users, and we look forward to welcoming them here for many years to come.”
