Mangaluru: Heavy rains overwhelm roads, artificial flooding affects many areas

Mangaluru, July 30: Heavy rains hit Dakshina Kannada district in the last 3 hours on Saturday July 30 including Mangaluru town.

The roads inside the city are submerged. Massive waterlogging is observed in many regions. Motorists were seen struggling to move their vehicles on the submerged roads. Water also spurted out at the premises of Mangaluru Central Station.

The ground floors of many buildings in Attavar were completely submerged in water resulting in a loss of millions of rupees. Commuters struggled to pass the National Highway near Pumpwell and Padil. Traffic was completely disrupted from Kulshekar to Nanthoor and people were found stranded for over an hour, when latest reports came in.

The rain fury was reported in Kottara Chowki and several other locations in the city.

Schools and colleges in Mangaluru City Corporation have already been given holidays on Saturday due to heavy rains, thunderstorms and lightning.
