Artificial ponds will be constructed for immersion of Durga puja idol

New Delhi: In a meeting held on September 8, 2022 by Delhi Jal Board Vice Chairman Saurabh Bhardwaj, discussions were held on pragmatic ways to reduce pollution in Yamuna which is increasing after the idols were immersed after the puja . The DJB vice president ordered the entire civil administration to ensure that the immersion of the idols after the festival takes place only in artificial ponds created specifically for the devotees.

He instructed Delhi Jal Board officials to ensure the optimum availability of water in these man-made pools so that the immersion is smooth and eventful. The Vice Chairman of DJB also led the concerned officials in beautifying roads around Durga Puja sites, arrangement of street lamps and enhanced security for the convenience of devotees in South Delhi.

At the end of the meeting, Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “During Durga Puja in Delhi, especially in the southern part, huge crowds of devotees gather in the area and the activity is at the highest. All necessary instructions were given to the relevant officials to ensure that there is no problem during the preparations for the puja and the immersion afterwards. I gave instructions for the construction of artificial ponds and filling them with water so that devotees don’t have to face any problem for idol immersions. We must adhere to NGT’s instructions regarding idol immersion in Yamuna so that by 2025 Yamuna’s cleansing target , as defined by Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, is achieved.
